Today he is the founder of Alibaba group and the richest person in his country. But his life wasn’t always easy and he had to struggle to fulfill his Creams. Jack Ma was born in October 1964 in Hangzhou, in communist China from a poor family.
Even though Jack built one of the largest companies in the world, he was never a very good student. In fact, he was bad at math and he actually failed twice when he was still in high school. When he was young he had an Australian friend by the name David Morley, with whom he learned to speak English. He also used to speak a lot with foreigners in his country, in order to improve his English. By the age of 24, he managed to take his first job as an English teacher at the Institute of Electronic Engineering in Hangzhou. In 1995 he travelled to Seattle in US for an assignment and he was introduced the world of the internat. One day he searched for the word beer’ in the Internet, but he surprisingly found no results for the Chinese beer. Then he looked for ‘China’, but still, he found no entries. This caught his attention and that’s how he decided to create his own web company (Chinapages.com). But even the website was quite successful, it soon run out of cash and a state owner took the company.
Jack Ma decided to create his own e-commerce company after found inspiration from the ‘Forrest Gump’ movie, where the protagonist gained a lot of money from fishing shrimp after a storm. So, Ma decided to invest in a small business, in contrast to the business-to-business sites, that were growing fast in the United States. Today, Alibaba enables businesses to transform the way they operate and market their products. The company also provides all the marketing support to companies all around the world in order to prosper and be successful. The book explores how entrepreneurship developed in China, where just some decades ago there were no private business and how the founder of Alibaba managed to reshape the global economy.
